Apparent weight = N (normal force on a person).

Elevator accelerating up: N = m(g+a) → heavier feeling.

Accelerating down: N = m(g−a) → lighter feeling.

Free fall (a = g): N = 0 → weightlessness.

Constant velocity or at rest: N = mg (true weight).
